I'm not usually a paranormal fan but if you like athlete romance (specifically ice hockey) this was really good. Loved Blair and the relationship between them was believable. Even though the paranormal aspect was integral to the story line, it was also separate (if that makes sense!) and the real focus was the hockey and the relationship. I would have liked the character of Nikita to be more fleshed out and Blair's relationship with his family was almost non-existent. However, this was enjoyable.Product details

Power Forward M/M Hockey Shifter Romance edition by Wolf Specter Romance eBooks Reviews
I received a free copy of this e-book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
I really enjoyed reading the story of Blair and Nik. This story is well-written and the description of everything is fantastic. In the end you can feel the love from the characters. I highly recommend this book. I love stories by Wolf Specter, and you will too!
This really was just an 'okay' book. It was interesting to me that Blair's reluctance to be 'out' was comparable to Nik's need to be 'in the closet' about shape-shifting. Clever. I also liked that Nik and Blair seem to have a real 'falling in love' and it wasn't insty-love.
The ending was a disappointment, though. It just...ended. I felt like things could have been written to tie up some ends but they weren't. (
I liked the steady build of the story but felt lost upon reaching the end. The first thing I thought was "is that it?" We're left with no knowledge of their families or their team's reaction, no declaration to each other, not even a feel good ending. The ending page feels like it's all about Blair being a gay hockey player. No mention of Nik, as if he was just a third wheel in the story.
Now let me start off by saying I don't watch Hockey play it or even like the sport but when I read Power Forward it really pulled me in I never got bored while reading the hockey lingo it was just a joy for me instead of a chore that being said Wolf Specter ya rock! Blair a human hockey player was hiding a secret from his team and wanted to keep that secret to himself because he didn't want that coming out so he spent years pretending to be something he's not problems start when the big burly Russian Nikita shows up all of a sudden the teams calling him pancake because he got flattened by Nikita and he then gets to be Nikita's travel roommate, everyone wants him to reign Nikita in from his aggresive bad boy ways, turns out the reason he's so aggresive is he's an Alpha wolf and he's more worried about people finding out he's a wolf than about his other lifestyle. My favorite Nikita and Blair line would have to be when the team Captain finds Blair and Nikita in a compromising situation (making out hot and heavy on the beach) Nikita says, "Your stereotype wounds me," "Because I'm Russian,I have to be a partier?" and Blair thinks No, People probably think you're a partier because to most people, you're kind of an a**hole. I truly loved this line because it showed that Nikita was so comfortable with his sexuality that he never even thought the captain was talking about his lifestyle, but about being a Russian who liked to party this is truly a good read. I recieved this book as a free ARC in return for a honest rewiew
Yes, I enjoyed this story, Power Forward. Wolf Specter does it again with his wolf shifters but this time with a twist.
The focus is on Blair Boyer, a talented hockey player, a human gay hockey player. It is his life, goals, and ambitions that are the focus. His Seattle team does a trade and in comes a big burly Russian hockey player. Nik becomes Blair's roommate while on the road, his partner on the ice, and together they shine.
Not knowing the sport of hockey, I was pleased with how easy I could keep up with the plays, the terms, and the players. Honest. I never played hockey, never been to a game, and of course haven't watched on TV. All I know is it's a brutal sport on ice skates. For me to enjoy a book about hockey is a feat in itself.
So Nik is far from his home in Russia. He is the wolf shifter and as such he's standoffish, doesn't communicate, and his opening up to Blair is slow. As the story is told from Blair's point of view we never get the back and forth of what's really going on with Nik. Obviously he has problems communicating and I'm not sure if it's his wolf or trust issues. While the relationship took months, this isn't one that ended on a HEA. But it was still a satisfactory ending. Part of that is Blair settling things in his mind about what's important. His relationship with Nik is important enough to not stress over family. He makes up his mind about being true to himself, that being a gay hockey player isn't the end of the world. Blair is thinking of other gay hockey youth and how his coming out will help them. For once he is ready to step out of the locker room.
I hope we go get a continuing story where Nik and Blair's relationship is more defined. I also would like to see the Russian family and see if more of those children from that photo will immigrate and want to join with Nik and Blair's pack. It'd be nice to see Nik's viewpoint and see if he can talk of his deepest desires and fears.
THOUGHTS Although I wish Nik could have explained to Blair if he was in control of his wolf -- Or if the wolf was feral when furry. I got the feeling that Nik was always aware. And. That reporter must be vampire. Yup. Not wolf. !! And may I add the cover is just off. At first it looks like stylized hair but with a closer look there's scrip in those tattoos and . .. . It's backwards! Sheesh. Whoever did the layout is slacking. I guess the firebird is somewhere there. - Dan's Wife
I loved this book! It was not exactly what I expected, but it was damn good regardless. The werewolf aspect is really an afterthought at times and not as explored as it could be. However the relationship aspect is pretty damn good. Watching the MCs bond as teammates and lovers. All in all, a time well spent.
I don't normally read shifter stories but the blurb and the cover caught my eye. Quiet stoic Russians who play hockey is a good combo. If you want insta sex it's not here and low key. I am hoping there is a follow up since the ending was a bit abrupt. I would like more back story and see how they move forward into the next chapter of their hockey life
